Sterling Silver Engraved Raccoon Handprint Necklace

Your one-of-a-kind glass bead was handmade by raccoon rehabilitator Sarah Holmes Bookbinder. Before the raccoon gods made other plans for her life, Sarah spent a significant amount of time at the torch. Sarah’s glass beads have been featured in numerous galleries, including the gift shop at the Corning Museum of Glass. She now does her flameworking in stolen hours in a small private studio overlooking 50 wooded acres of raccoon paradise at Gordon Wildlife.

Your necklace consists of a leather cord, sterling silver elements, and flameworked glass beads. All materials made in the USA.

Proceeds from the sale of each necklace go directly towards our wildlife work.

Each bead is handmade with love. Yours will be selected by Sarah & sent to you. If you would like to see or choose your bead before it is shipped, text Sarah at (315) 825-8277 for a photo of available colors.

As the country’s only specialized raccoon-only rehabilitation center with an in-house veterinary presence, here at Gordon Wildlife, we get a lot of questions about our practices.

In 2022 we launched a download illustrating and explaining our basic in-house medical and rehabilitation protocols. It includes our feeding and housing choices, lists of medications we have found to be effective, and descriptions of our general practices. As always, we continue to learn and our way is not the only way.

Since its issue, this download has been consulted by wildlife professionals in over 40 states and 8 countries and we have seen it referred to as “the Raccoon Bible.”

We are delighted to announce that copies of Gordon Wildlife’s Raccoon Rehabilitation Protocols are now available as a softover, spiral-bound printed reference book.

Found an animal?

We are here to help. The role of the wildlife rehabilitator is to act in the best interest of an animal while working to ensure the safety of the public. These tips can help guide you if you find an animal in trouble.

  • Rescue

Most of our wildlife calls involve educating our community on how to reunite babies with their mothers, helping people find ways to cohabitate with the wildlife in their backyard and identifying when a baby is truly orphaned and needs to come to a rehabilitator.

  • Rehabilitate

Our facility is primarily dedicated to the rehabilitation and release of orphaned and injured raccoons. We do not usually take in other species for care but if you contact us about another animal we will do our best to help with a referral.

  • Educate

We offer internship, externship and volunteer opportunities for wildlife rehabilitators interested in pursuing their RVS license, veterinary students, licensed veterinary technicians, and other interested parties.

At certain times of the year we are available for lectures and other educational programs.

To date, Gordon Wildlife’s Raccoon Rehabilitation Protocols have been purchased by wildlife professionals in over 40 states and 13 countries.
